The original political philosophy of the Founding Fathers which is based on the believes of individual liberty, rule of law, private property, economic freedom, and the foundation of the Declaration of Independence before totalitarian collectivists hijacked the term in the 20th century.
Selfish, egotistical political ideology vastly different from social liberalism as it sees human rights are a negative nature and that all individuals and government must refrain from interfering with the free market. By contrast, social liberals assert people have positive rights (right to vote, education, health care, living wage), all of which require governments to enforce taxation over above the minimum to guarantee their protection.
Political philosophy who’s core beliefs do not necessarily include democracy, as asserted by James Madison who argued that a constitutional republic with protections for individual liberties worked better than a pure democracy because “common passion or interests will, in almost every case, be felt by a majority of the whole […] and there is nothing to check the inducements to sacrifice the weaker party.”
Political ideology that believes society is just a collection of individuals who are “egoistic, coldly calculating” and that sees government as essential only for serving one’s economic self-interest.
The original liberalism which is called alt-right philosophy today.
