Freud’s theory was originally used for PR and advertising to promote consumerism, but it later was adopted by U.S. government, big business, and even the CIA to control the minds of the people and repress their ‘dangerous and irrational desires and fears’ supposedly (and ironically) to create a stable society and ‘make democracy work.’
